Whoopi Goldberg surprised her fellow hosts on The View Thursday morning with an unannounced visit to the live show — and boy, was everybody thrilled.
Joy Behar and the others dolled out hugs while the crowd cheered and chanted as Goldberg — dressed simply in jeans and an oversized white shirt — happily took a chair at the table.
“So this is my first foray out,” said Goldberg, who’s been off the show for a month because of a bad case of pneumonia. “I’m not there yet. I know that. But the only its only get better if it I begin. So this is my beginning,” she said. “I still have a cough and that’s the last thing to go. Over the next week and a half, I will start to be here more often … I really kind of missed y’all.”
“We missed you so much!” exclaimed co-host Meghan McCain.
Goldberg stuck around for several minutes to talk about her health and how difficult it was to deal with insurance — something she hopes a freshman member of Congress will take up as an issue. “One of the things I discovered, your insurance really doesn’t do much for you,” Goldberg said. “Why is it I’ve been paying insurance for almost 60 years and it hasn’t rolled over? If you are paying into insurance, that money should roll over when you need it.”
Goldberg became the moderator and co-host on The View in 2007, when she replaced Rosie O’Donnell.
