Every superhero movie coming out in 2019 (with trailers)

Studios have announced a whopping 10 superhero films still to be released through the end of 2019. The number isn’t surprising considering last year six the top 10 films at the global box office were superhero titles (even Venom did gangbusters). Here’s what’s next from Marvel, DC Films, and Fox:

Captain Marvel
March 8, 2019
Marvel finally releases its first MCU film focused on a female superhero. The logline: “Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) becomes Captain Marvel, one of the galaxy’s strongest heroes, after the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.” The film is set the 1990s (so before the events in Infinity War, though read how she fits in that film here).

Shazam!
April 5, 2019
Will DC continue its Aquaman winning streak with this family comedy? A 14-year-old foster teen (Asher Angel) can turn into a grown-up superhero (Zachary Levi) by shouting a single word.

Hellboy
April 12, 2019

Director Neil Marshall reboots the franchise with Stranger Things star David Harbour as the red demon and Ian McShane as his adoptive father.

Avengers: Endgame
April 26, 2019
The trailers so far have all been shots of depressed survivors of The Great Snap (presumably taken from the first half hour or so of the film before Marvel dutifully dismantles its most emotionally powerful ending ever). Even with a rumored three-hour running time, Endgame could break all superhero movie box office records.

Brightburn
May 24, 2019
Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn is back (as a producer at least) in this intriguing film that puts a horror movie twist on the familiar Superman origin tale.

Dark Phoenix
June 7, 2019
The 12th installment of Fox’s X-Men franchise and the start of a new trilogy starring Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner along with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence.

Men in Black: International
June 14, 2019

We’ll let others debate if this film technically qualifies as a superhero movie. Here Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson revive the franchise with Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray.

Spider-Man: Far From Home
July 5, 2019
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, who goes on a European vacation that’s interrupted when duty calls.

The New Mutants
Aug. 2, 2019
The superhero genre goes horror in this tale of a group of mutants held in a secret facility. Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, and Charlie Heaton star. Read more here.

Joker
Oct. 4, 2019
Todd Phillips’ standalone non-DCEU movie stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime in a new origin story film loosely inspired by Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy.

In 2020: Wonder Woman 1984Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Gambit and plenty of untitled placeholders.
