David Boreanaz to receive first-ever Maverick Award at SCAD aTVfest

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Bones star David Boreanaz will receive a major career achievement award at the 2019 SCAD aTVfest.

The Savannah College of Art and Design announced Thursday the 49-year-old actor is the first-ever recipient of the Atlanta-based, television-focused festival’s new Maverick Award honoring his outstanding contributions to the medium of television.

Currently starring on CBS’ SEAL Team, Boreanaz will accept the accolade on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET. He will then join showrunner and executive producer John Glenn as well as fellow cast members Max Thieriot, Neil Brown Jr., A.J. Buckley, Judd Lormand, and Toni Trucks for a discussion of a SEAL Team episode, which will screen shortly after the ceremony.

SCAD further announced that EW — the group’s debut media partner for the annual festival — will host and moderate the Wonder Women: Acting for Television panel on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. ET featuring a distinguished panel of television actors who will share their experience and expertise about all that goes into preparing for a project. Included in this year’s panel are Robin Givens (Ambitions, Riverdale), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead), Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest), and HelĂ©ne Yorke (The Other Two).

Previously announced festival attendees include Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper, who will receive the festival’s Spotlight Award, while the cast of New Amsterdam — including Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Anupam Kher, Tyler Labine, and Jocko Simswill — are set to accept the Outstanding Cast Award.

Additional shows included in this year’s festival include The CW’s All American, Fox’s The Passage, Amazon’s Bosch, ABC’s Schooled, Comedy Central’s The Other Two, Hulu’s Pen15, and the premiere of the SCAD-produced sitcom G.R.I.T.S.(“Girls Raised in the South”).
