Warner Bros. is developing a spin-off of Aquaman.
EW has confirmed the studio is working on a film exploring the most brutal of the Seven Kingdoms, The Trench — the one with the de-evolved toothy monsters that chased Arthur and Mera in the hit film.
As first reported by THR, the company has hired writers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to develop a horror-flavored take on the Atlantian underworld.
The film will not feature any of the main Aquaman cast, such as stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, and will reportedly be “much more modestly budgeted” than other DC movie fare.
There’s still no word yet on an Aquaman sequel, though one seems to be inevitable given the film’s record box office, having crossed the $1 billion mark globally.
