In The Final Wish (out Jan. 24), Michael Welch plays a man named Aaron who returns to his hometown following the death of his father to help his devastated mother (Lin Shaye) and to confront his past demons. Sifting through his father’s belongings, Aaron comes upon a mysterious item that is far more than it seems.
The Final Wish costars Melissa Bolona and Candyman actor Tony Todd. The film is directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. and cowritten by Jonathan Doyle, William Halfon, and Final Destination franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick.
“I’ve always seen this film as a gothic fairy tale,” says Reddick. “It’s a very personal story. The lead, Aaron, is a surrogate for me. I left Kentucky to pursue my dreams at a young age. When I got older I felt guilty that I left my mom and sister. That guilt plagues Aaron as he goes home and tries to mend broken ties with the people he left behind. But when he unleashes a Djinn, he realizes that getting what you want won’t necessarily make you happy…and, in this case, comes at a horrible price.”
The Final Wish is released in select theaters, Jan. 24. Exclusively watch a scene from the film, above.
