Pete Davidson teams up with Judd Apatow for semi-autobiographical comedy film

Fresh off his first feature film lead role in Big Time Adolescence that debuted at Sundance this week, Pete Davidson will co-write and star in a semi-autobiographical comedy film helmed by Judd Apatow, EW has confirmed.

Universal Pictures did not confirm a title or plot details for the film but said it will start shooting in New York City this summer.

This is the latest project for Apatow, filmmaker of comedy hits such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, who last directed Amy Schumer in 2015’s Trainwreck, which helped to launch her movie career.

Davidson, currently a cast member on Saturday Night Live, has been known to mine the ups and downs of his own life — including his recent engagement to and split from Ariana Grandehis mental health, and his father’s death on 9/11 — in his comedy. In Big Time Adolescence, Davidson plays a college dropout who takes a 16-year-old teen under his wing, teaching him the ways of his slacker life.
