Kara (Melissa Benoist) isn’t the only one with sister troubles on Supergirl.
In Sunday’s episode, Kara joins Nia (Nicole Maines) on a trip to her liberal and alien-friendly hometown to visit the Nal family, including her future-dreaming mother Isabel (Kate Burton). However, as the above exclusive clip above shows, the family reunion is pretty awkward for Nia, who still hasn’t told them about her burgeoning powers because everyone thinks that her older sister Maeve (Hannah James), who desperately wants powers, is destined to inherit the gift. And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Nia isn’t the daughter suffering from future blindness.

Showrunners/executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner are particularly excited for fans to see tomorrow’s episode because Nia’s family lives in a liberal oasis and because of how it will push the young CatCo reporter closer to embracing her superheroic destiny.
“Going home and seeing those dynamics and seeing a place [like that] will be a little break from all of the intense hatred and politics that we’ve been experiencing in National City,” Queller told EW earlier this month. “Then, we’ll focus on the family dynamics and what exactly has been holding Nia back from owning herself as Dreamer.”
Of course, the hour will also deal with the consequences of Kara and J’onn (David Harewood) making Alex (Chyler Leigh) forget that her sister is Supergirl. In other words, Supergirl won’t be lacking in sister-sister drama this week.
